Polar Plunge

1/13/25 AM PolarPlunge 66°52.389’S 67°12.205’W

Hanusse Bay, Crystal Sound

Our originally planned destination for this morning had to be scrubbed, as the path was blocked by channel ice. Our captain opted to spend an hour or so sailing into it to provide a view/experience to guests, and then to return to more open water for a much anticipated event: the Polar Plunge!

The mood was made festive by the crew...  We shucked our robes and sandals, and had belts secured around our waists, with safety lines attached.

A variety of libations were available to warm you up afterwards. Or to provide courage up front, if you needed it...

Awaiting our turn. Experiencing a mix of emotions...

And then it was time...

The water temp was -1.8°C (that’s 28.8°F for those of you in backwater countries like the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and the United States of America)

On our way to celebrate, post-plunge. Another guest's plunge being held up by a curious Minke whale

We retrieved our bottle of sail-away champagne from our cabin fridge, for a celebration in one of the hot tubs

    1. They counted down 3-2-1 very quickly, didn't give us time to think. I definitely appreciated that!!
