Adélie penguin colony
***
The first expedition of the day was a shore landing to visit the Adélie penguin colony at Bongrain Point. Landing was mildly complicated by the amount of ice clogging the shoreline.
The water was also very shallow, requiring that the zodiacs be pulled in from and pushed out to a sizeable distance from shore.

Engines were cut and the zodiacs were pulled in to shore from the point where the closest person is standing
Bio contaminant protocols were on display, as a dead carcass was cordoned off to keep guests from tracking any possible contaminants from that locale

This skua has ceased to be. It is an ex-skua.

The main part of the colony is nestled up against the hillside.
There was also patch of nests on the beach, replete with chicks.

I love looking at cute chicks on the beach. There, I've said it. Now I never have to make that quip again.
But I still kinda want to submit this clip to "Penguins Gone Wild"...

Penguin chicks. This will be continuing for quite some time to come...
Penguins. Going to where it is penguins go to do the penguin things.
