Everest Avalanche

Taking a departure from posting the regular blog account of the trip, as a number of people have pinged us to make sure we are safe. Yes, we are fine. We were never near where the avalanche took place, and were well away from the area when the incident happened.

The best information I have got as I write this is that the avalanche occurred between the Khumbu Icefall and Camp 1 (further up the route). There were several fatalities, all working Sherpa. We are saddened to hear of the fatalities, and our hearts go out to their families. We are also concerned that there are reportedly 100+ individuals currently stranded above the icefall as the avalanche wiped out the route down the mountain. Our thoughts are with those still on the mountain, and we hope for their safe return.

  1. I'm so glad to hear this. My thought immediately went to you when I heard about this on the news last night. Glad you're ok.

  3. Very glad you are safe too, Chris! Deeply sadded to hear of the sherpas lost. They are the rock stars of Everest. The tragedy is shedding much light here in the States on how little they make for the work and risks they endure.
